To make the case for 24-hour prayer, we need look no farther than the Word of God. Though this is a study that could consume pages and pages of print and hours and hours of teaching, we will look only briefly at 2 key passages of Scripture.
Luke 18:1-8 is the parable of the unjust judge. The purpose of the parable is to show “that men always ought to pray and not lose heart.” (v. 1) A widow woman pesters a judge over and over again until he finally gives her justice. How much more will our Father in heaven grant justice to us who pray to Him night and day?
“And shall God not avenge His own elect who cry out day and night to Him, though He bears long with them? I tell you that He will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will He really find faith on the earth.” (vv.7,8)
Jesus issues a promise that He will move quickly on behalf of those who pray night-and-day.
Another key passage is Isaiah 62:6-7
“I have set watchmen on your walls, O Jerusalem; They shall never hold their peace day or night. You who make mention of the LORD, do not keep silent, and give Him no rest till He establishes and till He makes Jerusalem a praise in the earth.”
Isaiah prophesied of a day when watchmen (intercessors) would not be silent day or night. This promise is literally being fulfilled in our day! Simply do an internet search for “Jerusalem House of Prayer” and watch what happens! Believers are literally on the walls of intercession night and day in Jerusalem.
This promise, though specific to Jerusalem, reveals the strategy of God for cities all over the earth. He has used night-and-day prayer to change history repeatedly, as we will see on the next page.
